Hey everyone, It's been a bit since I've posted, so I wanted to provide an update as to where I'm at. I've been hard at work applying the shims to the backs of my thighs. After a bit of trial and error and even having to start from scratch, this is what I've got so far: After following some instructions on the forum, I applied ABS paste to the gaps between the original plastic and the shim pieces. After drying, I sanded it down with 80 grit sandpaper and incrementally worked my way up to 2000 grit, beginning wet sanding at 1000 grit. I decided apply some ABS paste on some air pockets I discovered in the sanding process. Once dry, I'll start the process over again by starting at 80 grit and working up. This has been a pretty long process, and while it's come a long way since I started, I still think I have a ways to go before it's as flush as I would like it to be. As always, any advice or words of encouragement are appreciated!2 points

I saw someone who glued snaps in all chest & back pieces and then used elastic/snaps to attach them to each other. Can't find the link right now.1 point

Personally I prefer not using the bracket system, you can get cracks between the bolt holes as well as the adjustment is limited. I have seen some just add brackets without elastic so it appears original. That said there are no requirements all the way up to L3 to use brackets so many don't even bother and go for a general strapping1 point

Our June Newsletter is packed with information as we have plenty happening, so lets get into the update. New CRL and new section of our forums. In May the LMO team took a vote on where the Imperial Commando costume from the last two episodes of The Mandalorian Season 3 would live. Turns out FISD is the new home for this very cool looking costume. As usual we try and put as much as possible into the research and development of CRL's and as such we built a new section of the forums to house this costume which is a slight depart from the traditional mostly "Hard Armour" costumes that live within FISD. This new section has a gallery, section for build threads, a research area and much more. The plan is to continue to grow this section, fleshing it out with more vendors, hopefully some behind the scenes info and of course that good ole support you have come to know and love about our forums. Ultimatley, we will have a solid CRL, and already have a member 3D printing the armour and planning his build. There are more details on the new section further on in the newsletter, so please come take a look. While on CRL's, Pyre is almost complete. The CRL is written, just a couple more important photos to come from our builder, and off to the LMO office it goes for final approval. We are all very excited to add this shiny, gold clad TFA TK variant to our roster so watch this space. Some fun stuff to come Not only do we have a new merch run launching, some of the staff had a little in house design comp to come up with a few FISD Wallpapers for your laptops and home PC's. These will be available to all members only through the forum, and in a simple download format. Keep an eye open for the first release launching soon. The 1500! Each month we launch a catch cry as we move towards our goal of hitting 1500 members approved at Expert Infantry level. keep an eye open for these and announcements on how we are progressing plus there will be merch! The 1500 Strength in numbers! Until next month, happy trooping, building and helping others! With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader Greetings Fellow Troopers! The Coin and Patch runs are finally complete I'm ready start the FISD Shield Pin run, the run is now open for a limited time, 10 piece limit, you can place your order here Run will close on 16 JUL 2023 or when the supply of pins is exhausted. I have contacted all the members that submitted on the interest thread (Thank you to @MaskedVengeance for the assist in sorting them out). And I have opened the run to everyone! There is a cap at 2500 pins, This run will be open until 16 July 2023 or once we sell out of pins. In other FISD merch news. With Unquestioned Loyalty Jonatan Östling TK-23592 "Nairy" Curator Hall Of Fame Thank you to Luca "Morgi" TK-66744 for starting the FISD specific meme thread, you can find it here Currently as of 11th June there are 32,735 approved costumes in the legion, out of these under FISD there are 5,305 which is 16.2% of all approved 501st costumes. This percentage has been dropping steadily for the last few years, the larger the legion costume totals grows the smaller amount of TK's there are. As a comparison when I started we had just under 25% of all costumes in the Legion, that was almost 10 years ago. Some may have seen that we have just lost top position of detachment with the most amount of approved costumes, JRS has just passed FISD with 3 more, you can find a thread on the subject here It is still quite amazing that there are so many FOTK's compared to say Hero's or ESB's, many don't realize these version costumes can be achieved quite easily with only swapping out a helmet and a few other items, you can see which items in this comparison PDF Info can be found on the legion holocron New Forum Area and Costume We have now officially opened the newest section of our forums to house the Imperial Commando. Referred to as "Gideon's' Stormtroopers" by the makers of the costume, IronHead Studios, they are seen on mass in episode 23 and 24 of The Mandalorian An Eye For Detail I am always surprised of the level of detailing some members will go to and this is especially true with this build, Dave's "Helotech" TK98695 3D Helmet Interior is one of those builds, it is outstanding and deserves to be highlighted this month. His build started at the end of May 2022 and has just been finished (but are we every truly finish ) Well done Dave the finish is a credit to you. You need to be an approved TK. You can submit up to five pictures, which have to be taken at SWCE 23. You either need to be on the photo or have taken the photo. Every photo needs to feature at least one 501st Stormtrooper. All pictures should be of a reasonable quality, so please don’t upload them directly to the forum. Instead you can use a secondary platform like Imgur. You need to have the rights to the picture(s) and consent to having them shared on FISD Social Media. The contest is open for two weeks. Once the contest is closed, Staff will vote on the winner. Therefore, Staff will be excluded from the contest. What can I win? We are giving away one of the FISD Sweatshirts (size M), one of the 25th Legion Anniversary FISD Coins, and one Star Wars Celebration Patch to the winner. Additionally, the winning picture will be turned into a SWCE Badge Design, of which you will get a digital copy. Since we’ve all spent enough money on Celebration already, shipping will be covered as well. Full info here The contest will close on the 19th of June 2023, 12:00 GMT. CRL's Currently Under Construction Please see below the links for four CRL's FISD currently has under construction and discussion. If we managed to get any more under way, they can also be added to the active WIP list. It is awesome to see that we have members working hard towards some exciting new additions to the detachments roster that will aid in further growing and enticing members to our friendly home. These are what we have, and if you have input or can assist these members in bringing their dreams to reality, please feel free to participate in the build threads. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! The classic strapping pack came with the kit and I was thinking about using that one as it may fit the kit well. But I was also meaning to ask, would there be a benefit to using another strapping method or is it just preference?1 point

Waiting for cover strips on the shins to finish glueing. In the meantime, I trimmed the torso and will probably tackle the chest plate either tonight or tomorrow. I left at least 8 mm on the top for the screws and 1-1.5 cm on the sides. I left a little more than 5mm around the cod piece area but could trim more off easy.1 point

Did a test fit with the arms (minus the shoulder bells) and the legs with the boots on to see how much mobility I had. The arms feel good and there’s a good amount of mobility. The legs seem pretty stiff because the thighs and shins seem just a little too long. I think the thighs are up high enough, if not let me know and I can do another test fit. Thank you!1 point

Using clamps, LOTs of magnets and tape during the drying process will help. It also helps to keep an eye on the seams, checking them periodically to make sure things haven't shifted out of place. I know it's a pain in the posterior plate to remove pieces once glued, but in this case I would suggest taking another stab at this one and lowering the cover strip about half an inch. The bottom of the strip should ideally touch or be very close to the top of the ridge. I would also recommend gluing in a small scrap of ABS on the inside (behind the gap) to cover it. If you want to go a step further, you can fill in the top with ABS paste (kind of a pain) or white Sugru. I have a quick tutorial here on using Sugru, and if you live in the U.S. I will send you (no charge) enough to take care of all the gaps on the front and back. Screen used thigh- front Rear You may want to trim down a bit of the return edge on the outside to match the inside after gluing the interior scrap.1 point
