More fun with magnets I am using a cheap dental vacuum (about 100.00) to make the holders/flange for the magnets. Not only for more surface area for glue, but to also help cushion between the magnets (so they don't shatter). .040 plastic sheet Pockets like I did on the calves Magnets on the inside of the chest piece. Eventually I will sand and clean it up for a "nicer" look.3 points

This was a real shock to our whole garrison, Dan had already beaten cancer, so it was very unfair that it came back. If you'd like to leave a donation to help beat cancer, you can do so here https://march.royalmarsden.org/fundraising-page/beatsarcomawithbrantz2 points

RIP Dan, and bucket's off. It's shocking that someone can be such a voice and then be silenced so unexpectedly. My condolences to his family. Truly a sad day for our community.2 points

I give permission for FISD to repost my photos on social media in an appropriate fashion. Troop 1, 2 and 3: Saskatoon Entertainment Expo May 5-7, 2023 / raised funds for the Pattison Children's Hospital. This is the most members ever at this event from the various clubs. The last few months have seen a lot of new people join as rebels, 501st or mandos. We raised funds for the children's hospital in Saskatoon. I'm going to give some background on this journey in the sound off thread however for now I will just say that life getting in the way of life may not have allowed this troop to happen. The week leading up to it I was flipping back and forth about even attempting it in part because I was being thrown into the deep end instead of a nice small first event. But I landed on the side of going and then the next thing you know I was there. I think in retrospect the deep end of the pool was the way to go as I got to do many jobs in a busy setting so learned to adapt and be flexible with everything very quick and for an OCD type of guy that says a lot! This one begs a caption. I took the last shift of the first evening because I wanted the least number of people around to make me nervous. Here I'm getting a pep talk (I think it was a pep talk) from TK-16818 @GilesWoodward. I was so up in my head at that moment I can't say for sure what he said. I don't even remember anyone there with a camera. Then to make matters worse as I walked out he made a big announcement about First Troop coming out so there was some applause and other commotion which made me self-conscience, but then I remembered that no one was going to see the horror on my face and I calmly walked to the photo booth area for my shift. First hurdle achieved! The rest of the photos are from various times throughout the three days. I think that Jawa was making a move for my blaster! TK-55810 is the other trooper that lives 5 minutes from me. She helped a lot the last few months with pictures and information on what to expect at a troop. By day 2 I was a bit less nervous about it all and I got a tip that allowed me to fit both my head and my glasses into the bucket at the same time which gave me enough confidence to walk around the immediate area a bit and interact. I had some people asking for selfies and was able to deliver some lines and get some laughs. I did find my lower back would get sore unless I moved around every few minutes. Standing in one place for too long is murder for me. By day 3 I was itching to get into that armor! Never thought I'd be saying that. I did more interactions as I tried to develop my character and hiked around the entire dealer area with one of our Imperial officers. I probably did about 2 hours of trooping that day and could have easily done more, but had to get ready for the trip home. My back was getting used to the feel of the armor and movement and in general I didn't find anything too uncomfortable or too hot. I did take note of a couple little things that I will let wear in a bit before making fitting adjustments. At one point a television camera was stuck in our faces and they asked the three of us above to have a conversation so we did a little adlib as I questioned them about being the rebels I was looking for. If this link works we're at about the 2:30 mark. No dialog was left in and it's in French but you can get the intent very clearly. https://www.facebook.com/icisaskatchewan/videos/960924468269825/ TK-34575 in the sandtrooper and his son. @@wook1138was instrumental in getting me to this point as he patiently answered dozens of questions. This guy wanted a photo as he used the chainsaw on our TIE fighter so I suggest we react as best we could. We let people take as many photos as they needed. A kid asked us to sign his book so we all did, but now that I see the title I'm not sure if that was such a good idea! Maybe just as well I didn't use my real name... Some of my favorite/interesting things that happened. I played a statue for a few minutes and watched as some people were taking a close look at me. Then I talked and they laughed saying they didn't think I was real then they wanted photos with me. I was walking behind a father and his little boy when the father said to his son, "Look who's behind you." and he turned around and was all smiles when I fist bumped him. I liked saying, "Everyone say Star Trek" in the photo booth when people were wearing starfleet shirts and lines like, "You need to take that again I had my eyes closed." and "Everyone frown." which all got laughs. Faiirly standard lines from most I know. We had props for people to use in the booth and one was a blaster so if a little kid picked that and stood beside me I would bend over and show him my blaster and say, "Look it's the same as mine." which they all seemed to enjoy. I even had the chance to get people out of the way with, "Move along, move along." I learned quite a bit about other costumes as we didn't have dedicated handlers so we did that job for each other. Helping the mandos in and out of their costumes made me feel for them. So many layers they were boiling most of the time. We had a fan in the booth which helped a lot for everyone. I must admit that I was grinning a lot under that bucket. It was a surreal experience. I saw myself as someone in a plastic bucket seeing the world in shades of green and people looking back at me were smiling and seeing a stormtrooper. Even looking at photos of me I can't believe it is me under there! Saturday night we had a multi-club supper which was great to get to know everyone even more and another member gave me a little welcome package of patches, coins and stickers! I was feeling special and welcomed by the group. I think the Saskatchewan gang is going to have a lot of good times together and there was a lot of that buzz around the table. I came back with some con crud cold, but am ready to go out for number 2 on the 27th of this month. Then there seems to be steady slate of available troops if I want them (and likely I'll want them). Really hard to put into words all the feelings this past weekend. Many of you have described the same thing but until I felt it for myself I couldn't fully appreciate it. Thanks for looking! Bart ************************************** Number 1 is going to be going up by the end of this weekend. Is a troop considered one event or is each day of the event its own troop? I asked the other guys and no one knew and none of them have a log here. Bart1 point

It is with great sadness I am making this announcement that today we lost one of our own. Earlier today Dan Branton TK-42911 passed away, after a long battle with cancer. Many will know him for his incredible enthusiasm in always helping others and this often included aiding those to build the best stormtrooper they could. Within his own Garrison he held the position of armourer. A formal recognition of his enthusiasm, his knowledge, and his ability to assist others new to Star Wars Costuming. Here he was a staff member, a Provost Marshall, and his opinion always welcomed. The majority of you will only know him from the forums, or Facebook groups he would post in. To many others, myself included he was a great friend, and we will miss him dearly. He is succeeded by his wonderful wife Tuesday and their three children. Buckets off. Slow progress last week (and weekend) but I managed to get my biceps set with the e6000. I have a little bit of glue clean up that is needed, but that should only take a moment. This week, I plan on tinkering with the detonator & investigating the sizing the the forearms more (talking with the vendor, it sounds like the sizing is mostly immaterial to qualification).1 point

Here's a great thread on the normal process, I believe the UKG adds an armorer to theirs prior to GML approval1 point
-
UKG's system is a little different to most other garrisons, have a look on the UKG's forum for instructions on costume approval. For issues with the Join Up Form you would have to contact legion webmaster lwm@501st.com1 point
-
Thank you both for your responses. I’m not sure if I have been approved by the GML. Is that the next step after being approved by an armourer? If so how do I go about it? Also, I have filled in the Join Up form but because I was already a member it wouldn’t let me file for a TK number! It kept telling me that my email was already registered. I got a bit stuck and I thought I was doing so well after getting the armour approved by the armourer! Not sure where to go next with but really keen to move on to the next step! Just wanted to quickly check the news here on FISD when I came across this very sad thread. I was shocked as I had no idea about his very personal fight. Feeling very sad, struggling for the right words. Nothing in my mind that hasn't already been written here by others. Never had the chance to meet Dan in person, but he was always very kind and friendly when we were in contact. This is so sad. Buckets off.1 point

I’m just seeing this now. I was busy trooping today in a costume that was built with considerable help from Dan via whitearmor. His love of this hobby and limitless enthusiasm made him an invaluable member of this community… and a great person in general. My deepest condolences to his family. Privileged to have him as a friend, I will miss our conversations very much. This is a very sad time for all the staff, but we will celebrate Dan's life and he will forever live on in FISD history and our hearts. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again. Andrew @Sly11TK11469 If you would like to pay your respects here is the thread Greetings fellow members May is always a great time of year to be a Star Wars fan and 501st member as we celebrate 501st day, May the 4th, Revenge of the fifth, and a change of season. It has been great to see plenty of posts and coverage across our social media platforms and to also hear of Carrie Fisher getting her Star on the Hollywood walk of fame, albeit posthumously, and we are only just getting started on this month. First off, I would like to congratulate our winner of the new Forum banner design which will shortly appear at the top of the FISD forums. Thank you to TK-81175, iceknyght (Jason) for his most excellent design. You have successfully left your mark on our forums for the remainder of the term, well done and congratulations! CRL update It wont be long now before we finally have a new CRL Commander Pyre CRL is almost complete, just a couple more images from Sano on his marvelous costume, and a green light from the LMO team and it will be published and ready. This has been years in the making and we are all super excited to get this to completion. We will post it across all platforms the moment it goes live so keep your eyes on FISD for the official announcement. More CRL's under construction and continued upgrades are also occurring. The biggest hold up for us is always having a costume builder and secondly, getting all the photos needed to complete a CRL they are the main reasons it takes so long. If you have your eye on a new character costume from the bevvy of TV series we have these days, and you believe the costume belongs here, please talk to us. We work as a team with the individual to assist in the creation of a new CRL, have the perfect place to share all your references and build a case for the costume belonging on FISD. Troopers helping troopers makes your dream become reality, plus the blessing of the LMO team to find the right home. You can expect to see another one go live in the not too distant future, but we are still working on updates to our First Order costumes, so more discussion will kick off this month for those. If you have input, please look for the threads and join the conversation. Advance to 1500 is in full swing, and we are still ironing out some ideas for merch to help drive this baby along, we will have more to announce on the forums after the FISD Pin run goes live (details on this in this edition) but rest assured, there will be merch! If you are wondering what Advance to 1500 is all about, it is our journey to the next target number of total troopers approved at Expert Infantry. The milestone is "The 1500" and with some simple changes and upgrades your basic approved armour, you can become part of this campaign have your kit looking that much closer to screen accurate, be proud and get into some exclusive merch items on the journey and more when we reach the eventual finish line.
