Hey Greg! I was in the same boat. I ordered SDS before knowing the history of "issues" with the company. That being said, the SDS kit is actually very good. I'm not one for the politics of the controversy. I receive a ton of compliments on my armor. It will take some work, but I believe it is less hassle than having to scribe and cut parts out of ABS sheets. Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to your build.2 points

NEW Detachment Leader Merchandise & Officer Hall of Fame Just For Laughs Update Your Build Threads Around the Detachment INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Common FISD Acronyms and TK Glossary Pre Approval Forum 3D Section Field Exercise Award Imperial Attaché Program Master Armorer Award Fire Teams EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Greetings all We have plenty going on in this edition and lots happening on the forums for September. Our next merch item has an interest thread running so please check out the details further down from our DMBO James. Remnant TK CRL discussion thread is alive and looking for input. It is already loaded with great reference images and full blown discussion on how the CRL should read, plus we have members looking to build this dirty version of TK. Obviously a CRL can't go live without the all important costume ready to model and take photos of so all the written words mean nothing without someone willing to build the costume first. If this interests you, please get involved. The LMO team need everything ready to green light a new CRL or a major update so without you, there is no CRL. It is amazing to also see how much work goes into this process so go visit the thread and see how this one is unfolding. You can find the thread here On behalf of the staff, I would like to Congratulate our latest 3D award recipient TK61490 TheRascalKing (Justin) Justin has also just completed his qualifying assists for our Master armourers program so a double congrats to you sir. Don't forget these are open to all members that meet the specific qualifications for each program. They promote troopers giving back and helping in our community, you could be our next recipient! We are always looking for new content and ideas for our monthly newsletter, so If there is anything you would like to see included please reach out to gmrhodes13 or myself to discuss. See you on the forums. With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader INTEREST THREAD FISD HOODIE The Members Choice Merch Item is currently listed as an Interest Thread here! Please check in and give us an idea of how many you would be interested in! We are closing the Interest Thread on 21 Sept 2022. The plan is to open the Sales Thread on 25 Sept 2022 as long as LFL has approved our item. Please remember that this is just and interest thread to help us gauge the number of items we need to get approved for. There will be an actual Sales or Run Thread that you will need to check out and place your order on. Also, I'm soliciting designs for future merch. Items would include, but not limited to, coins, T-Shirts and patches. If you have design ideas, or other merch items, you might like to see, please DM me your ideas so we can discuss future FISD items. With Unquestioned Loyalty James Silvius TK-12953 "jsilvius" Merchandise & Branding Officer Hall of Fame – Terrell Reber TK1787 "SuperTrooper" There are some nominations to the FISD Stormtrooper Hall of Fame that, due to the extraordinary contributions of a member make the ratification what is commonly known as a “no brainer”, and it is my honor and pleasure to inform the community of the latest member to this notable group. Terrell Reber is a giant of the Legion, FISD, and the armor community as a whole. In the early days of the detachment he served as XO numerous times as well as taking a term as detachment leader. When the staff was scratching its head trying to figure out we could possibly do all the graphics processing for creating our first 6 CRLs ever from scratch, it was Terrell who conceived of the IPM (Imperial Propaganda Machine), a group of junior staff who could provide auxiliary support to the newsletter and CRLs in terms of content writing and graphic production. This model is still in use today. If that were not enough to warrant a HOF (Hall of Fame) warrant, Terrell also saw a huge need for affordable stormtrooper armor. Hard as it is to believe these days, most armor back in the early days was FX, and if you wanted something more accurate you had to pay a high price for TE type armor, if you could find it at all. The only other alternative was low quality recasts of TE, to which numerous potential Legion members had fallen prey. Terrell created ATA – Affordable Trooper Armor that so many Legion members wear today. It was high quality, TE armor that was actually affordable. He never took payments in advance and was such a stickler for quality that his plastic was purchased as a custom run. On top of this he provided peerless service, offering replacement parts at cost and always being available to answer question and help new people out. The fact that the Legion stormtrooper has transformed to what it is today is due to no small part of the advent of ATA, and it’s hard to overstate the impact this had on the community. Lastly, anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Terrell in person can attest to what a kind, decent and positive person he was. He was forever gracious with his time and help, living up to the spirit of troopers helping troopers. Everyone who met him found a new friend. He is sorely missed by all of us lucky to have known him, and it is only appropriate that his memory lives on in the Stormtrooper Hall of Fame of the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment. These are in no way authorized by the FISD or Legion and should be immediately reported by clicking the three dots in the top right corner of the post and selecting "Report post to group admins". Any unauthorized sales posts will be removed, and due to the influx of potentially fraudulent, fake, or "hacked" accounts, any posts related to t-shirts or apparel will also result in the ban of the person posting from the group. To be clear, these posts are NOT coming from actual Legion or FISD members, and for almost all other offenses, a warning will be issued first. The only place you will find official, FISD-branded merch being sold is on the FISD forums in the Detachment Merchandise section as posted by our DMBO, currently James S. @jsilvius. Likewise, only the DL, DMBO or Admins will post merch announcements in the Facebook group. While this is apparently a problem across several other Legion Facebook pages, please ensure you do not support these scammers by clicking, liking, or sharing their posts (or posts of any other unauthorized merch), and report activity as you see it. We are continuing to investigate the source to see if we can link them to a particular Rebel cell, but are also exercising additional scrutiny when adding new members to the group in an effort to keep the group free of spam and focused on Troopers Helping Troopers! Arts Alive 2022! at Hylton Performing Arts Center (Sep 11, 2022) -Garrison Tyranus, Inferno (NOVA) Squad We hung out in our private dressing room for a while and then went backstage. After the Indiana Jones theme, the orchestra performed several Star Wars themes, beginning with Duel of the Fates! On the Imperial March, we went on stage and loomed over the audience! At its end, a boy in Jedi robes came out and we fled the stage. We hung out up front for pics with patrons and performers. My first troop is in the books!1 point

It was the closest match I could find! If I could’ve found it in another brand, I would have bought it! Put the E-11 away!1 point

Thigh tops can be different or match it's up to you, ATA molds are a little different to many other makes, notice originally the left leg has a step You want to make sure they appear centered when closed. I just split the difference as you are only talking about a couple of mm's. There is also a thicker/industrial velcro which I find works better than standard velcro. Make sure you rough up the back of it to help it hold to the glue Standard velcro Industrial I also found they don't close very well and do need some heat to bend so they will lay a little flatter and close fully1 point

Yep. Since you have sufficient overlap of the bridge over the back plate tabs I would trim off the large one, which is screen accurate. The elastic strips should hold them down nicely, but it may help to add a bit more of a curve to the bridge to help it lay flatter against the tabs.1 point

Well I think I saved the Thigh pieces. Got them to a full strip down and wet-sanded them. Used a cutting compound per suggestion and seemed to do the trick. I mean I am no auto detailer but I think they look pretty good.1 point

Way to go, Joe! No matter how many troops you do in the future, you will never forget the first time you put on that bucket and stepped out into public.. Awesome set of armor there, by the way! If I remember correctly, you said back in July of last year that you would be submitting for EI.. I'm going to hold you to that! (Hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge).1 point

While waiting for the glue to dry on the forearms, I started to work on the shoulder elastics. They were pulling out where the shoulders attach as seen below. I had the ends of the elastics triple folded over to hold the snaps but the mid section was just 1 layer. I tried redoing them with a 3 layer front to back elastic but it still pulled out and the reduced stretch gave me a trooper wedgie. Next I put some Velcro on the underside of the shoulder bridge and on the corresponding elastic portion and this seems to be working well.1 point

NEW In Memoriam Detachment Leader Merchandise & Officer Just For Laughs Update Your Build Threads Around the Detachment Spotlight Trooping Opportunities INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Common FISD Acronyms and TK Glossary Pre Approval Forum 3D Section Field Exercise Award Imperial Attaché Program Fire Teams EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Jason “Jay” Grider, TI-80333, joined the Bloodfin family in June of 2020 with his TIE Reserve. His approval was during the initial COVID crisis so it was some time before he was able to troop. In June of 2022, he was approved as an Imperial Gunner. He also had a Jedi in the works to join his local base, Mos Espa. Jay joined the Legion for familiar reasons to many, both for his love of Star Wars and for putting smiles on everyone's face. He always spoke of this, and also his love for metal music. He leaves behind many friends, his wife, and a daughter who would accompany him on numerous troops. She intends to carry on his trooping legacy by joining the Galactic Academy, with the assistance of Bloodfin Garrison members. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" The West Texas Squad of Star Garrison have lost a valued member, John Minnick (TB-52913). The following words are from his wife, Tamara: John was a Biker Scout in the 501st Legion since September of 2017. John loved trooping and always said “Pathfinders lead the way.” John was a caring person who loved participating in hospital troops and also charity events. He enjoyed the Comic Cons and loved raising money by doing Blast-A-Trooper. As his wife, and also a Jawa in the Legion, I will miss trooping with him very much! May the force be with you always, my love, my Biker Scout. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" Charles Short (TK 14770) joined the 501st Legion in November of 2015 with his ANH Hero Stormtrooper. He was a member of the West Texas Squad of the Star Garrison, and was a constant recruiter, engaging with everyone he met, about the Legion. Charles was a driving force in growing the West Texas area from 2 active members to over 30. He was always available to guide, and help members and recruits as they worked on costumes and props. He hosted armor parties, and his garage was always available if you needed help, space, or tools to work on a project. He loved trooping any event with kids, whether it was big or small and was always there to put a smile on everyone’s face. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" Jeffrey Denbow, TI/IG 11065 of Garrison Carida passed away on July 16, 2022. Jeff joined Garrison Carida in 2017 as a cadet in our academy, and became a full-fledged 501st Legion member in September 2019. He loved everything about trooping. He clearly had a favorite type of costume, as he not only had a TIE Pilot with the 501st Legion, but he also had an X-Wing costume with the Rebel Legion. In addition to his TIE Pilot, he had a TIE Reserve and an Imperial Gunner. Whenever there was a parade, he proudly carried either the 501st Legion flag, Carida Garrison flag, or the Jolly Roger Detachment flag. Jeff will be sorely missed. In addition to his Legion family, he is survived by the love of his life, his wife Nancy; as well as his sons Chris, Clay, and Donnie; his daughter Lilly; and his 4 grandchildren. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" Anders joined the Legion back in 2008 or '09 as part of the Nordic Garrison, like many current Danish Garrison members, which then became Danish Garrison in 2017. He was very passionate about Darth Vader, and his love for the character did not only involve the costume. He attended all the conventions in the world that he possibly could, both in US and also Europe. He enjoyed trooping for kids, and especially in hospitals as it gave him a feeling of giving something special, to kids who had a hard time, which he deeply identified and sympathised with. He once said on a troop "Even though im tired to the bone, it gives me a special energetic boost to see these kids smile at me." He even packed his medical equipment for longer rides / troops, so he could do dialysis in his car and then troop with his Garrison mates for the rest of the day. Anders was a guy who knew "everybody". He knew famous actors, singers and stuntmen who he posted pictures with when he was performing as an extra in various movies. Besides the Legion, Anders' helped out other cosplayer communities with photography and getting the right props, or even 3D printing, as he had 3 big 3D printers. Unfortunately, Anders was diagnosed with Melas Syndrome and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis in 2008. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is a kidney disease which will affect the blood cleansing process. Therefore he needed to have dialysis several times a day to stay in good shape. These diseases did not stop Anders from Travelling all around the globe to places like New Zealand, India, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, and many more. He was so determined that this should not ruin his life and HE was in control and not the diseases. He was always travelling with his good friend Anne, who helped him pack all the medical stuff and knew his entire situation. Anne was like an extra family member who helped Anders throughout his whole period of illness, from '08 til the last day. Anders fought hard against the diseases but slowly this year his body started to give in. Although he clung on to life in the hope of getting in one last troop in his wheelchair, but unfortunately passed away on the morning of 4th May. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" On July 14th, Mark Lillquist became one with the Force. Mark is survived by his wife, Jenny and several adoring pets. Mark joined the Legion in 2011, starting with IC-6653, and soon expanded to a TIE pilot, an Imperial Guard, Tusken Raider, and finally a Shadow Stormtrooper. Mark's irascible sense of humor, paired with his desire to help, made him a beloved member of the Tampa Bay Squad, earning a variety of nicknames. As The Cardinal, in a custom "helmet" made to wear with the Imperial Guard robes, Mark shared many a blessing while he made the rounds at Star Wars Weekends and other cons. He worked with Albin to promote the Walking Wounded detachment, which is comprised of troopers who struggle with some limitation but overcome it to spread the joy that is Star Wars. Mark was a solidly dependable trooper who valued seeing his fellow troopers in action, and also in social meetings. Mark was instrumental in finding venues for squad dinners, often giving catchy names to the events. His cantankerousness, coupled with generosity and compassion, earned him a whole new nickname that he embraced with pride, "Grandpa." He would use his knowledge of mechanics and tools to help fellow troopers build their kits, and then jokingly remind us all to get off his lawn when it was time to wrap things up. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" Eternal Legionnaire Gallery: https://www.501st.com/members/memoriam.php Wait!!! Whats this I hear!!! Members around the world who have waited literally years for their First Order TK armour from a vendor we wont mention, are finally getting what they paid for!!! Well I wouldn't have believed it until I started to see Big brown box photos appearing hear on the FISD forums and in our Facebook group. That is correct, you don't need to adjust your ocular vision array, or tun up your hearing sensors, it has finally come full circle. Nothing pleases me more than to read these kinds of posts and imagining the elation of our members, and smiles on their faces because when some lost all hope, deliverance had come to perch. Ok so maybe I was a little over the top there lol, but we are all truly happy that this day has come. Need more proof, here are a couple of photos from a very happy member. For more please visit our forums. Other news: Just a teaser, but looks like we will be starting our next merch run in the near future. The FISD Hoodie will be coming next so watch this space for more information, and don't forget to check into the forums from week to week for future updates and more information on the design process and options discussion. ( only visible to full 501st approved members unfortunately ) I think we are pretty settled on the design, with only a few details to iron out in regards to options. We are restricted based on current legion merch rules so there will be a variant also available. 1 merch slot = item plus a variant. James our DMBO will have plenty of info coming as soon as we are ready. Further CRL updates: TLJ still ongoing, some changes have already taken place, but we still need to replace images to bring them into alignment with the improved descriptions. The accessories upgrade will take place to cater for more fun carries and the TROS inclusion (Electro Prod) once we have the images to represent them. TFA, we are looking at replacing the original model photos at the top of the CRL as this was done at the very beginning of the Anovos Alpha run for the movie premiere. It was recently pointed out that the biceps in this image are rotated and not sitting how they should. To alleviate any potential for confusion we will update this as soon as possible, along with correcting some of the specific parts images contained in the body of the CRL. This is much the same as what is taking place with the TLJ CRL treatment. Ultimately, we want to represent these characters as accurately as possible along with good Centurion upgrades. We are the 501st and we like high standards, this is what sets us apart from other costuming groups out there. I hope you enjoy what this months newsletter has to offer, and until next edition See you on the forums! We have gone with a classic School/Academy theme, something a bit simple. We are looking at a pull over and a zip up. While we are still looking to see if we can find a vendor that can make the graphic work with a zip up, but we aren't having a lot of luck so far. If I can't find a way to do the zip up, we will more than likely just offer two different colors (Grey or Black). We are currently not looking at adding a lot of customization as we want to leave that to the individual troopers, or maybe get with your fire teams, squads or garrisons and do something together. Here is a current mock up of the hoodie: I plan to have an interest thread posted soon so we can gauge interest so we can get a better idea of cost. Supporting a Ukrainian Legion Member by SO-CAL Troopers Some members may have noticed that the CO of the 501st Legion's Ukrainian Outpost had posted his ESB Stormtrooper armor for sale on the forums as a result of the loss of his job due to the ongoing conflict in his county. In an effort led by Michael B. @TK6682 and his Force for the Cure charity, the Southern California Garrison (6th largest Garrison in the Legion) came together and in less than 24 hours raised enough donations to "purchase" Bogdan's armor at his asking price, with a clear message - to keep the armor and to continue to spread joy and distraction for the people of his country whenever and wherever he can. In the spirit of "Troopers Helping Troopers", the Garrison raised an additional $750USD+ on top of that to donate to help Bogdan, and a collection of Legion patches, coins, and stickers donated by SCG members will be en route shortly as a further show of support. Kudos to Michael and the troopers of the Southern California Garrison for supporting a member in need! Additional donations can be sent as Friend & Family to (theforceforthecure@gmail.com) with "Ukraine Trooper" noted in the comments. If you would like to donate patches, coins, or other club merch, please PM @TheRascalKing before the end of August. Thank you!
